Well this is the first day of 2008...(sigh)...I walked to my kitchen to find it snowing; however, the ground was not covered, the snow was just beginning or so it seemed, there was barely a dusting on the rooftops. Snow, to me at least, always creates a certain quiet sound as it falls.
It seems that each flake is performing its own graceful dance to a music only the snow can hear. Each flake falls, spins, flips, and comes to rest at its exact assigned place as if it were a choreographed ballet. Once the landing is accomplished, it seems that job is complete, and that single snowflake can rest. But as the snow comes to rest, its job really isn't over, it is just beginning; afterall, the snow fashions its own sound.
The sound of the falling snow creates a beautiful sound...I dunno, maybe it is the thoughts that go throughs my head of how something falling that far can be so quiet, or maybe it is just the thought of every snowflake being so different and magnificant. Could it be that something so simple is so awesome. Maybe it is the few childhood memories of not having to get up and go to school. Perhaps, it is the cruching sounds snow makes as it is walked through it or maybe the flakes that fall on the exposed skin and quickly melt away, as if it wants to hide...but there is definitely a sound of snow as it floats downs.
Whatever one decides the sound is, the snow creates a certain tranquility as it insulates the world from its own harshnesses...the snow creates a glistening blanket of white to hide all the imperfections we have created and for a moment, I become caught in the beauty each falling flake. It is almost as if snow is GODS way of saying see what beauty the world can bring if you only let it.
The sounds of complete stillness speaks deeply. It naws at ones heart and soul. Silence, however deafening, creates a knowledge so vast that it leaves us longing
