Eric Flack, a reporter at WAVE-TV from 2002-2007, is coming back as the station's Troublshooter.
Flack left WAVE for Cincinnati's WLWT three years ago, leaving behind some solid work on investigative stories at the station. He's won eight TV Emmys and several other awards for investigative reporting.
Flack has roots in Louisville. He grew up in Washington, D.C., but his mother attended Seneca High School. You might remember Flack being attacked by the subject of one of his reports, or his four-part series on the Kentucky State Penitentiary. Search his name on WAVE's website and you can see plenty of his work.
It's a good move for WAVE-TV, still operating without a news director since the sudden departure of Lee Eldridge last month. Chris McGill has been doing Troubleshooter stories since the departure of Charla Young.
I didn't know Charla left either. OTOH, Flack is a good hard-hitting investigative reporter, while Charla was a nice lady who focused more on helping people, it seemed. I recall how Flack got national coverage on NBC when the subject of one of his stories got violent. It will be good to see him back on local TV.
i just think it's odd he's taking a step down to come back to Louisville. Either he wasn't liking WLWT or they threw a pot of money at him. WLWT is a Hearst Argyle station just like WLKY but I will say a lot of people I know who work there like it very much. It's, I think, market 35 while Louisville flirts with 50 or lower. Interesting. I wish him the best.
