It seems to be dawning on local politicians how important Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom was to the local economy. There's no hope, though, for salvaging the park, according to Six Flags chief Mark Shapiro.
Six Flags Freakout: Some are saying the whole Six Flags announcement was a P.R. stunt to get a better deal with the Fair Board. I don't think so. But it's certainly gotten the attention of local politicians. Jerry Abramson addressed it this morning, and Hal Heiner and David Tandy (strange bedfellows?) are holding a 2 p.m. press conference at the entrance gate. (Wonder if they're aware of the rain).
Notable Real Estate Transaction: From the PVA, on Jan. 6 Karen Cunagin Syper and her mother purchased a home on Kings Lane in Middletown for $177,500. And still nothing new on her better-known claim to fame -- Sypher is charged with extortion in a case involving Rick Pitino.
It's Possible Here: In Kentucky, you can still get a high school diploma in some counties without being taught sex education, which keeps our state's ranking for teen pregnancies in the Top Ten. A bill in the House would make sex ed mandatory.
Think Spring: Tonight is U of L Baseball Leadoff Dinner, and Jeff Francouer of the Mets is in town to speak. The event is at 7 at the Kentucky Expo Center, former home of Kentucky Kingdom.
Gr8! No Txtng: I'm siding with the opposition to this No Texting bill that's going through state government. The law isn't enforceable, and the issue is already addressed in laws against reckless driving. And people do all kinds of things in cars they shouldn't do, like smoking. Is a $20 fine going to make a difference in a teen's decision to text in the car? Doubt it. But it makes politicians fell like they're accomplishing something.
Super Ads: Can't wait for the big game to see the commercials. Here's a preview site, including a new KIA spot that doesn't mention Rob's contention that the jacks in the cars suck. See Rob's Kia parked at the Mojo party at Saints on Sunday night.
Aaack. SNOW: I'm starting to regret signing up for those Fox41 Snow alerts, 'cuz whoever is writing them finds it necessary to use ALL CAPS: WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM EST /6 PM CST/ THIS EVENING TO 1 PM EST /NOON CST/ SATURDAY... THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LOUISVILLE HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW ...
