Film Guy at LouisvilleMojo here with the rundown for this November 6-8 Weekend should you choose to hang out at Stonybrook, Baxter, Village 8, Tinseltown, or any others.

Opening This Weekend:

“The Box” – James Marsden and Cameron Diaz are a couple with a kid living in dire circumstances when a mysterious stranger gives them a box that has a button on it. Pressing the button will reward them with $1 million however, it will also kill someone else in the world they do not know. Based on the Richard Matheson story, “Button, Button.”

“Disney's A Christmas Carol” – Jim Carrey voices Ebeneezer Scrooge in this CG take on the Dickens classic. Also stars the voices of Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Tom Hanks, Bob Hoskins, Colin Firth, Gary Oldman, Cary Elwes and Robin Wright Penn. Directed by Robert Zemeckis.

“The Fourth Kind” – Milla Jovovich in a thriller based on the real-life story of a town in Alaska where people have been disappearing and where they fear there's a government coverup.

“The Men Who Stare at Goats” – Ewan McGregor stars as a down-on-his-luck reporter who gets the inside scoop on a secret psychic military unit. Also stars George Clooney and Kevin Spacey. Based on the 2004 book of the same name.

For Your Indie/Art-house Consideration:

“Coco Before Chanel” – This is the story of Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, who begins her life as a headstrong orphan, and through an extraordinary journey becomes the legendary couturier who embodied the modern woman and became a timeless symbol of success, freedom and style. (Yahoo! Movies)

“Cold Souls” – Paul Giamatti plays himself, a tormented actor who seeks relief through “soul extraction.”

Not Opening In Louisville:

“Precious” – Based on the “Push” novel about a black girl who grows up being abused by her mother, raped by her father, and ends up poor, angry, illiterate, unloved, and unnoticed.

The Rundown: Looks like I'm gonna be hangin' out at Stonybrook and Village 8. I'm banking on seeing “The Fourth Kind” (The Truth IS Out There), “The Box” (I'm a fan of Richard Matheson's stories) and “The Men Who Stare At Goats” (looks funny at least). The Robert Zemeckis/Disney “Christmas Carol” does look good but personally I can go another 20 years before watching another version of the Charles Dickens story. Seriously, after the Flintstones, the Muppets, and everyone else has done it, what else is there to mine?

One other thought: how did we NOT get “Precious?” Oprah and Tyler Perry are exec producers on this one and it's not showing at Baxter, Village 8, or Stonybrook. Sorta surprising…

There you have it: “The Box,” “The Fourth Kind,” “The Men Who Stare at Goats,” and maybe even “Cold Souls.”
