Welcome to Mojo. We’re glad you came!
mojo n. - (1) a magic charm or spell (2) personal magnetism or charisma
Mojo is our free, local community website. Mojo is also community supported; we're nothing without you! It's not about us pushing stuff at you; it's about enabling you to promote yourself, entertain yourself, further your career, etc. Every day the Mojo community grows larger. In our largest Mojo cities, we have tens of thousands of users and literally millions of page views every single day.
Please keep in mind that Mojo is ONLY what you make of it. How you use Mojo is up to you. For some, Mojo is a great way to make new friends. For others, it's a dating site or a workday diversion. Bands and artists use Mojo to promote their art, and still others have found that they can network and further their careers, promoting their service or business via the site. Or, you might only use Mojo to find out what’s going on around town tonight.
How to behave on MojoFollow the same rules and etiquette that you would follow in the rest of your life. Mojo is not just an online community. Mojo is a sampling of the entire population of the city. Don’t say something on Mojo that you wouldn’t say to that person’s face if you saw them at the grocery store. The golden rule applies, always. Please treat others the same way you would want to be treated.
In regards to messaging others, there are simple rules of etiquette that one should follow:
1. Be polite, plain and simple.
2. Be specific and after reading a profile, let the person know why you chose to write them. (i.e. simply writing ‘hi’ is a rotten first message)
3. Be prepared to receive any type of response.
4. Be aware that most mofo do NOT want a massage (even with fresh fruit), and unless you know that the person may welcome your massage offer, it is probably best you do not cross that line. (it’s amazing that we have to even say this).
5. If a mofo asks you to leave them alone, just leave them alone. It’s not always personal, and it’s not always about you.
One of the best places to start when trying to feel out the mofo around you is in the forums. All forums are categorized, and all members are welcome to post. Please make sure you post in the right forum, or you risk having it removed by a moderator. In the forums, you can get a pretty good idea of some of the personalities that make up Mojo. Be aware that many people have an online persona and are quite different in real life. Do not confuse a forum with a real discussion with the individual. It’s just an easy and non-threatening way to banter with fellow mofo.
The best way to meet your new friends are at the various events in which they participate, (visit MOJO ON THE TOWN for more event details). Many mofo attend these events and are willing to introduce themselves. If you aren’t sure who the mofo are, look for the loudest people at these events and most likely you’ve found us. If not, feel free to ask - you’ll probably be pretty lucky.
When meeting people from Mojo, USE COMMON SENSE. We do not screen people when they sign up for an account, nor do we take any responsibility for information you share with them or what happens outside of the site. Anyone is allowed on Mojo provided they are over the age of 18 and can behave properly within our Terms of Service. If you wouldn’t go home with a stranger you met at the grocery store, don’t go home with someone you just met online. Again, it all boils down to common sense. The same rule applies with lending money, buying products off the classifieds, etc. etc. Use common sense and be prudent in your actions.
Most of all, be willing and ready to learn and accept many different types of people. Being open and accepting will ensure that you will make some wonderful new friends.
Enjoy Mojo... we’re thrilled that you’ve chosen to join our community!
