While most political watchers have been eyeing the Democratic primary in the U.S. Senate race between Jack Conway and Daniel Mongiardo, it may turn out that the contest between Sec. of State Trey Grayson and Rand Paul will be even more expensive and attract just as much national interest.

Paul will be in town tomorrow at Valley High School for a town hall debate on health care. Mayoral candidate Chris Thieneman will host the event, and organizers say they're expecting a big crowd of folks worried about any government-backed health care reform. Councilman Doug Hawkins is also touting the event. It's likely Paul will say a lot of things that the anti-government crowd in the South End want to hear.

According to a Survey USA poll released by WHAS-TV, Paul is dead-even with Grayson among GOP voters. Joe Arnold reports further news that's good for Paul, bad for Grayson -- the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which would have favored Grayson thanks to Mitch McConnnell's support, won't be spending money on primaries.

Then there's the conservative organization Club for Growth, a likely supporter of Paul over Grayson. The New York Times reported it is leaning toward spending money on primaries, including the one in Kentucky.

A few months ago, Grayson seemed to have a huge advantage in the race. But Paul isn't just gaining on Grayson, he seems in position to move ahead.
